The Washington Post revealed in 2010 false data was knowingly used by the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the premier public health agency in all the land, to support their claim that high levels of lead in Washington DC's drinking water did not pose a public health risk to those who drank it. The agency misled the public that the lead-contaminated water was safe to drink. This even after CDC determined that children living in thousands of homes throughout our nation's capital fitted with lead pipes were four times as likely to have elevated levels of lead in their blood One million or more people in the Washington DC and Virginia were exposed to drinking water contaminated with unsafe lead. The CDC claims were concluded by A House investigative subcommittee to be "Scientifically indefensible. As terrified District parents demanded explanations for the spike in lead in their water, the CDC hurriedly published its calming analysis, knowing that it relied on incomplete, misleading blood-test results that played down the potential health impact, the investigation found.
