Look a the Image...is that what you see in the mirror?

That's exactly what the Chemistry Industry and Pharmaceutical Industry see when the look at you.

Banned Pesticides Still Lurking in Our Water

After years these substances were proved to be highly toxic to the guinea pigs. That includes humans and animals in addition to the farmland pests they were intended to kill. Many pesticides have been banned or severely restricted. Unfortunately, many of these chemicals were used for years, giving them a chance to seep into the ground and, in turn, potentially contaminate groundwater.

Aldrin

Beginning in 1950 and lasting through the 1970's, Aldrin was a very common pesticide and insecticide. It was used to control the population of insects on farms which produced cotton, citrus fruits and corn. The chemical was also used when mosquito and locust populations got out of control, as well as to kill termites. Wood was also treated with Aldrin in order to prevent termite infestation. Although the substance was banned nationwide in 1985, Aldrin still poses a threat. The substance does not break down in the environment. In fact, the traces which are present in the ground as a result of previous use actually become more concentrated over time. We still grow crops on land which has been treated with Aldrin in the past. As the animals we eat are raised on these crops, they accumulate Aldrin in their bodies. We also eat produce grown on contaminated land. By the time we ingest these toxins, they are much more concentrated than when they first hit the ground years ago. Since Aldrin does not break down, water contamination is another very real concern. The chemical gets into water supplies primarily through seepage from groundwater. Aldrin can cause a host of health problems, including a weakened immune system, higher incidence of infant mortality, cancer, birth defects and reduced fertility.

Chlordane

Used for years as an insecticide, Chlordane is now restricted heavily due to its health risks. Exposure to Chlordane is believed to cause cancer, liver disease and may impair nervous system function. Chlordane shows up in drinking water through the same avenues as Aldrin; ground that was treated years ago is still holding onto this chemical, and allowing it to seep into ground water supplies. Like Aldrin, Chlordane contamination is closely monitored by the EPA and any reported contamination of public drinking water must be reported.

Chlorobenzilate

Used primarily to control mites on fruit and citrus trees in California, Florida, Texas and Arizona, Chlorobenzilate has been banned since 1999. The ban of this chemical came after it was observed that dogs and mice, after exposure to Chlorobenzilate, developed tumors and exhibited an array of other health issues. Currently, the substance is classified as being a potential cancer danger to humans.

Tests and Remedies

After years of experimentation on the Guinea Pigs with these substances EPA was finally able to prove harm and now regulate these substances..  If a city or town discovers any of these chemicals in the public water supply, consumers must be notified and purification must take place. If you get your water from a private well and are concerned about traces of these pesticides, you may have an independent test done. If these or other contaminants are found, the company which performed the test will either be able to decontaminate your supply. You can then proceed with acquiring the proper water filtration product.. Recent investigations by environmental groups and news journalist have reported finding many instances where government agencies and water suppliers have falsely reported or in some instances not reported accurate testing results to the public. In some cases they have knowingly deceived citizens about the dangers from discovered from contaminated drinking water. We recommend that families especially those with small children have their water tested. Test can proved the knowledge needed to protect your families from the long-term health dangers of consuming contaminated drinking water.

What About Today.

Today the Chemical Industry and their Lobbyist have basically rewritten all the laws that were passed to regulate the substances they could bring into the market. Today there are over 80,000 chemical compounds released by some means into our environment.. As the law stands now the EPA must prove the harm they cause before the can even start top regulate them.  Even then it is an uphill battle against industry lobbyist who own our politicians who fear losing contributions to their election campaigns if the take the wrong side. So when a new cleaning product or fire retardant or insecticide is brought to market we use it and the Guinea Pig experiment begins. Better Living Through Chemistry!
